The Shifting Supreme Court, Part 5
Because she is influenced by her personal belief system (i.e., her worldview) we can know fully that she will be a strict constructionist on the bench. How can we know? Because she handles the text of the Constitution with the same respect and similar submissiveness as she does with the law that was established even before the Constitution – God's law. I know its really unpopular to say this in this day and age – but we do know don't we – that the American legal code was in many respects modeled after biblical principles and the Ten Commandments?... But because she views the Constitution similarly to the way she views Scripture, we can count on a solid, unchanging, unshifting worldview from this woman. (And let me just add this: If she were not a committed, born-again Christian, we would need to know much more about her, and the hysterical right would be 100 percent correct in our concerns.)
Hmm...yet another perspective to chew on.

My principal concern with the Miers nomination is one that isn't oft heard - her age. I believe she is 61, which means that all other things being equal, she will likely be replaced in the next 15-20 years. Roberts, at 50, may well be on the court - as Chief Justice no less - for the next 30 years.
Has anyone stopped to ask why Democrats had so counseled the President to look "outside the appellate system" for a nomination? Could it be because their minions had been poring through the likely candidates in that system and deduced the liklihood of them being pulled to the political left (A.K.A. "the dark side") over time (as were Souter and Kennedy) was quite poor.
I agree with Stickster, Bush should nominate Janice Rogers Brown.
I agree with you both, that Brown should have been nominated, credentials aside, especially after the Dems filibustered her for *two years.* Since they confirmed her finally to the appellate level, they would have looked foolish to turn her down yet again for the Court. It also would have looked worse if the Dems, who are the "saviors" of the minorities, wouldn't have approved an African-American female candidate.
Apparently, CWA also agrees with us.
