"Their arrogance is stunning."
John Stossel says of the biggest porkers in the U.S. Senate: "Their arrogance is stunning." Yes it is. Stossel details his interaction with Senator Byrd:
I think the best we can hope for is their retirement, either from the Senate or the Earth. The youngens know we're watching them more closely and that they'll never be so priveleged as to pull a Byrd or a Stevens over on us.
When the Democrats held power, I confronted Sen. Byrd about his "Honorable" Robert Byrd Highway-type projects in West Virginia. His answer was as arrogant as he was: "I would think that the national media could rise above the temptation of being clever, decrepitarian critics who twaddlize, just as what you're doing right here."I wrote about this very thing - the sheer expanse of placenames bearing Byrd's moniker, on Op-Eds.com last year. Also in that piece I slammed Stevens. Any chance that things will change now that Stossel's on their backs?
"Twaddlize?" I asked.
"Trivializing serious matters," he explained.
I persisted, "Is there no limit? Are you not at all embarrassed about how much you got?"
Byrd glared at me, "Are you embarrassed when you think you're working for the good of the country?!"
I think the best we can hope for is their retirement, either from the Senate or the Earth. The youngens know we're watching them more closely and that they'll never be so priveleged as to pull a Byrd or a Stevens over on us.
